This art activity was created with special needs students in mind. It may take several sessions to complete depending on their attention span, fine motor skills and independence level.

Conversely, any student from pre-kindergarten to grade 5 (4 to 10 years old) will enjoy creating their own masterpiece while following our step-by-step instructions or by using the materials as they please.

Teaching Objectives

• Students will explore inspiration pieces to create a mixed media composition of an ocean wave using painted paper and watercolour pencils.
• Students will experiment with different tools and mediums as they apply colour and their own torn paper to shape their artwork.
• Students will strengthen their fine motor skills as they manipulate various tools and materials.

This project comes with an extended learning opportunity to learn about the French artist Henri Matisse.

Basic materials such as pencils, coloring pencils, markers, scissors, liquid glue, and glue sticks must be provided by students. The materials provided are for the main art project only.

Art supplies you will receive: Multi-media paper, liquid tempera paint, metallic paint, paintbrush sets, watercolour pencils, rubber stamps, bubble wrap.
