This art activity was created with special needs students in mind. It may take several sessions to complete depending on their attention span, fine motor skills and independence level.

Conversely, any student from pre-kindergarten to grade 5 (4 to 10 years old) will enjoy creating their own masterpiece while following our step-by-step instructions or by using the materials as they please.

Teaching Objectives

• Students will explore inspiration pieces to create a mixed media composition of a cherry blossom tree using tempera paint and tissue paper.
• Students will experiment with different painting tools as they apply colour to shape their artwork.
• Students will strengthen their fine motor skills as they manipulate various tools and materials.

This project comes with an extended learning opportunity to learn about the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso.

Basic materials such as pencils, coloring pencils, markers, scissors, liquid glue, and glue sticks must be provided by students. The materials provided are for the main art project only.

Art supplies you will receive: Liquid tempera paint, paintbrush sets, sponge brushes, cotton swabs, plastic forks or foam applicators and tissue paper.
